Will the socket fan fit my light?
Updated September 28, 2026
The Light Socket Fan fits standard E26 light sockets, the medium screw base most US ceiling lights use. It also fits E27 sockets.
- A bulb in a regular, open ceiling fixture: it fits. Screw it in where the bulb was.
- A recessed (can) light: it fits with the 6-inch extender from the box. Screw the extender into the can first, so the blades clear the ceiling.
- Something else: send us a photo of the light and we’ll tell you if it fits before you buy.
Where it won’t work
- Enclosed fixtures, like a light with a glass dome or shade around the bulb. It’s for open fixtures only.
- Lamps and other portable fixtures. The extra weight can tip them over.
- Loose or moving sockets, or sockets with damaged threads.
- Dimmer switches. Use it on a regular on/off wall switch, and dim the light from the remote instead.
- Emergency exit lights, outdoors, or anywhere damp.
How high does it need to be?
The fan should be at least 8 feet above the floor. If you use the 6-inch extender, make sure the bottom of the fan is still at least 9 feet above the floor.
